Tendonitis is the painful inflammation or irritation of a tendon, one of the cords connecting muscle to bone. It’s common in the shoulders, heels, wrists, and knees. In the shoulder, tendonitis is inflammation of the rotator cuff or biceps tendon or both. Pitchers, swimmers, volleyball players, and other athletes who repeatedly move their arms overhead are especially at risk.
